Upgrading: War of the Supermarkets
BACKGROUND:
Nishi-Tachikawa is a part of Tachikawa proper and neighbors Higashi-Nakagami, where I live. Higashi-Nakagami is a part of Akishima. I will use the terms Nishi-Tachikawa and Tachikawa interchangeably. The same goes for Akishima and Higashi-Nakagami. Please try to keep up.
ISSUE:
Higashi-Nakagami and Nishi-Tachikawa are cities on the move and we seem to be developing a bit of a rivalry. You see, Tachikawa has Cinema City and Cinema City Two [Link: Cinema City Theater], which we visit often. With ESPA’s CinePlex announcement, Akishima City seems to be poised to fight with Tachikawa on the cinema front. This rivalry is now spreading to supermarkets. Nishi-Tachikawa has fired the opening savlo.
The first shot was fired on August 30, 2004 when the Nishi-Tachikawa store was opened in front of Nishi-Tachikawa [Links: One :: Two] station with much fanfare. It looked as if everything was on sale. I picked up a couple of “Roll Cakes” for about 100

Yeah, in last few years, many of supermarkets have been laundhed. I don’t know why people started focusing on this area though, it is not bad at all. My favorite supermarket is Seiyu:) I was so excited on their opening day. Also I love Mizuho The Mall16. Their choice of tenants are wonderful. but little bit too far.
Now, I am looking forward to ESPA’s opening day. I won’t need to make a long line in front of the Tachikawa Cinema City anymore. Yay!
Coco, I am not making any promises on the CinePlex at Akishima. As far as I know, it is still a rumor, so you might end up having to line up in Tachikawa. BTW, have you been to Cinema Two yet? It blows Cinema City away!
You are right about the distance from Hamura or Fussa to reach The Mall. My wife and I used to take the free bus from Fussa, but since Seiyu has opened up, no more free bus. Now we just talk about going, but never really make it there.
