Breakfast

Just a warning: make sure that you don’t run out of jam at home, otherwise this is what happens: a breakfast of Natto on toast:

Actually, it was pretty good, but it might not agree with everyone, especially early in the morning.
(Natto = smelly, fermented soy beans, for those who don’t know)

I used to like natto. It’s a favorite of my GF, so often we have a snack of natto over rice with some seaweed.
The other night I opened a package though and said “Whew! I think this natto’s gone bad – it really smells vile.”
My GF gave it a sniff and said that it was perfectly fine, no different than normal.
It seems that since I’ve quit smoking, my sense of smell is starting to return…

Natto’s supposed to be incredibly good for you in ways that people don’t yet completely understand. Lots of complex B vitamins.

I *love* natto, especially the small or chopped bean variety. Fave dish: nattto spaghetti…our recipe for “natto-spa” is here: http://www.blownstack.com/twoate/2005/11/natto_spaghetti_rules.html#more

Natto is the best! I like mine with chopped green onions and yellow mustard over rice, just like the way it’s made in my furusato (Machida, which is hardly inaka).

It seems that everyone has their own favourite natto fetish!
We usually eat it at suppertime, with fresh tofu and wasabi.
