I think personal experiences can help with difficult things, like apartment hunting and trying to find a doctor on new years day!!

Restaurants and bars. Info on apartments such as prices and differences between neiborhoods. And I also enjoy reading every day life in Tokyo.

Having lived in north Saitama, I used to love to visit Tokyo…now that I can no longer be in Japan I miss it so much. So basically what I want is more writing here. Even just day to day stuff, laundromats, new toys at the konbinis, celebrity gaffs…

I love posts in all the Metroblogging cities about everyday life, just the little things you run into about town. Restaurants, oddities, sites to see, current events, just the minutia that makes Tokyo everything it is.

Hmmm… how about tourism information and about the Japanese cultures and heritage. I’ve never been to Japan and would love to go there atleast once in my life so any info would be good info! There… that’s my two cents =)

Best of luck with the Tokyo Chapter fellas… and welcome to the crazy world of metrobloggers.

What I love are the photos and personal accounts of daily life. It’s always interesting to me to know what was in the shopping bag, what the meal was, what friends are saying, what’s annoying, what’s a nuisance, what’s cheap, what you’d do differently, what you’d never do again. signs and shops, gardening, household and personal adornments, fads, small town in the big city, what struck you when you were new to town if you ever were, the small-scale dailyness of life — keep it personal and invidual.

Photographs, photography.. you get the point. I grew up in Yokosuka, a half breed (Japanese mother, hakujin father). My Japanese family is from Machida and boy do I miss Japan VERY MUCH. Never considered a native anywhere, though – stranger here in the USA (especially when I lived in Virginia), and equally branded as a stranger in Japan. The only place that really felt like “home” as far as acceptance (of a half breed) was Hawaii (I’m hapa, braddah). Regardless, Japan was home for a majority of my life and I crave the chance to return again. Keep up the good work!

observations on everyday life, on living there as an expat, on general trends, on the communities of foreigners (especially the brazilian-japanese community), and on how mobile technologies and services integrate with everyday activities

I would like to know what everyday life is like in Tokyo. Also, lifestyle type things, sports, what locals do for entertainment, those types of things

The list formulated so far sounds marvelously informing. I just ran across this site, and I’m thrilled to find someplace where I can read about the happenings in a city of my favorite country. I’m sure that anything given to us readers would be wonderful, and the options already given cover everything I could think of…so I don’t have any new additions. I, like others, am stranded in the US with no visiting to Japan manageable except by cyberspace. Thanks for providing someplace I can go to at least experience it in a small way.

There are a lot of other websites reporting about the following in Tokyo:

Architecture, Art, Character Goods, Cosplay, Design, Electronics, Fashion, Fetish, Film, Food & Drink, Furnishings, Gaming, Humor, Idols, Internet, Kids, Life in Tokyo, Manga, Mobile Technology (keitai), Sight Seeing, Technology, Transportation, Travel, Web, Trends & Fads,

And the following probably wouldn’t be interesting to casual readers outside of Tokyo:

Bars/Clubs/Cafe, Politics, Sports, Social Networking, Social Issues, Events, Restaurants,
Stores/Shopping, Racism, Housing, News, Family, Environment,

    So that leaves:

Music, Books, Brands, Celebrities, Depravity, Di versity, Sex Industry, Porn, Gay/Lesbian Culture, Photography, Television, Performing Arts/Drama, Style, Strange/Weird Stuff, Underground, Youth Culture, Night Life, Magazines, Personal Accessories

To sum up, Metroblogging Tokyo should have an ‘underground’, ‘entertainnment’, ‘culture’, ‘insider’ angle.

I used to watch a funny Filipino show based in Japan called “Oh Tokyo!” which featured cute shops and focused on Japanese culture. Hope you could also have something on that aspect. :D

I would like to read about modern trends in business culture

  22. Dave (unregistered) on February 10th, 2006 @ 8:34 pm

Maybe it is easier to suggest what I don’t wanna read about; politics, sex, porn, nihonjinron, things which (out of context)are meant to make Japan, the Japanese, (or others) seem like weird weirdos etc. We can get tons of that stuff at nearly everly English language site about Japan.

Photos, everyday life, new products, entertainment, these are interesting
