Ashes & Snow

Tokyo Metblog
The Nomadic Museum has arrived in Odaiba, Tokyo. What looks like just a huge stack of cargo containers is actually a travelling photo exhibition by Canadian artist Gregory Colbert called Ashes & Snow which has come to Tokyo via New York and Santa Monica.
Don’t ask me for a review; I was kept out by the 1900Yen entry fee.

The fee is 1200 yen. OK, not cheap, but not unreasonable either. What I do hate in Tokyo are the fantastic classical concerts with foreign orchestras and conductors, where the good seats are like 60,000 yen. I suppose they all have to fly first class.

Cheers Martin. Sorry, the original TAB link I put is for the “Preview” and the full exhibition is 1900Yen. I guess I’ve just been spoilt by all the free Art Galleries & museums in London & Madrid (although you do have to pay for special exhibitions like this one is).

Wow, 1900 yen. Psychologically there is a huge difference, isn’t there. I’d still like to go. It is great when Tokyo gets it right, and a unique art show like that comes to town.

Sweden used to have free entrance at museums, but with a change in government policy recently they started charging fees. Consequently, a 30-40% drop in admissions. No wonder kids go for computer games instead.
