Tokyo Earth Garden Fall

October 27-28 there will be Earth Garden Fall in Yoyogi, near NHK in Shibuya, Tokyo. Unless the autumn rain gets really bad, you can enjoy the food market, music and lectures.

The focus this time is on arts and crafts: I like the peace mark designs. Also participating are farmers “for our smile world”. Radio Freedom, Organic Life & Smile World Cafe, Soft Energy Demo and Dish Re-Use System… And many others who care about the environment and our common future.

They say they need volunteers too. Hey, if you are good at translating Japanese to English, why not help them make a great website in English?

Tokyo Art Beat 3rd Year Anniversary Party

Tokyo Art Beat is Tokyo’s bilingual art & design events guide. They also have listings of creative jobs. It is pretty useful website if you are interested in contemporary art happenings in Tokyo. I always use this to find where I can stop by along the way.

The party was good. It was packed and certainly had a good sense of community around. Designers, artists, musicians, organizers, curators were there to celebrate the anniversary. It also gave me a chance to catch up with some of my friends I bumped into at the party.

Negativity Spots on Earth

metroblog.jpg

There are some places in the world that just oozes with negative aura. Everyone in there is just unhappy, and even if you can hear someone laughing, it seems really fake. These places seems to suck up your positivity, and coming out from there to the rest of the world is just such a relief. These places include, job agency, very cheap supermarkets (the ones where they don’t bother with presentations at all), and immigrations. The last train from Shinjuku is also quite depressing.

Speaking Can Get You Dates in Tokyo

So the other day I was in a club called Womb. Had an amazing time, really.
After spending 5000 yen or so in drink (ouch!) I was in a very talkative mood and I was very very happy. The world was cheerful and spinning, and my mates were great. So I started talking to this girl. Complete stranger. I have no idea what we ended up talking, but I ended said I was single. To which she commented “well if you speak English, you would be able to find girlfriend easily.” I thought that was a very dumb comment. How can an ability to speak a language enable you to pick up girls? Okay, so if you speak five languages, that would be impressive.

AIG Open 2007

The AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships are underway in Ariake, Tokyo. Although Roger Federer isn’t back to defend his title, there are still plenty of big names taking part, including Venus Williams and Lleyton Hewitt.
Like last year, they are behind schedule because of the rain, but that should just mean that you will get more matches for your money. I’ll try to catch a few games tomorrow evening if I can.
Living just over the road from the Ariake tennis complex, this is a fun time of the year. I bumped into some pro’s shopping in our Lawson convenience store and last night a couple of them were watching our evening tennis coaching session.
Check the official website for the schedule and ticketing.
