Painted by Japanese artist Taro Okamoto, his surreal art piece Asu no Shinwa (”Myth of Tomorrow”) is now placed near the Keio Inokashira line at the station.

TIME magazine wrote an interesting piece on this mural and I couldn’t re-tell it in a better way.

I would like to add that there’s so much amazing art in Tokyo — it’s intense and inspiring. Just another spanner in works when you think the Japanese way is rigid and monotonous.

Tokyo Art Beat is Tokyo’s bilingual art & design events guide. They also have listings of creative jobs. It is pretty useful website if you are interested in contemporary art happenings in Tokyo. I always use this to find where I can stop by along the way.

The party was good. It was packed and certainly had a good sense of community around. Designers, artists, musicians, organizers, curators were there to celebrate the anniversary. It also gave me a chance to catch up with some of my friends I bumped into at the party.

A friend, Theo, missed the last train to Kawasaki-city. So we decided to stay longer at the party and went to eat Ramen at one of my favorite Ramen shops in Roppongi around 1 am.

Zabon Ramen is where we went to finish the day. It is located in the middle of Roppongi but has a deserted feeling around the corner where the shop is located. I also think this Ramen shop is a sort of buddy or old friend type of place for Roppongi people. It is a place to eat Ramen after party.

The artist is called Suiko and he has done Street Art work all over Japan. I like the way he used traditional images, the dragon on the left, and a tiger on the right, in his very striking work. These concrete pillars are 3-4 meters high and quite impressive. He made them in the fall of 2005 when Berlin and Tokyo had a joint art project.
